Lindenwood University is in the middle of a bold campus expansion plan that blends the old with the new and provides facilities that will flourish for Lindenwood's next 182 years.
The expansion already has yielded eight new 180-bed residence halls for Lindenwood students, as well as the grand new 138,000 square foot Scheidegger Center for the Arts.
In September, 2008, Lindenwood began the renovation and expansion of its beloved Harmon Hall. When the two-year project is complete, the building will house the university’s School of Business and Entrepreneurship.
Nine classrooms and several seminar halls, breakout rooms, and office space will be added. The existing interior also will be updated and remodeled and a new façade added to the entire building.
In early May, Lindenwood’s students, faculty, board and staff joined together for a groundbreaking event for the new LU Commons student center. The 119,000 square-foot structure will include a second dining hall, three basketball courts, a suspended jogging track, a workout facility, rec rooms and plenty of areas for student relaxation. The building is expected to take about two years to complete.
Construction also began in May on a new Lindenwood main entry gate near the southeast corner of the campus. The impressive structure, located at the intersection of First Capitol Drive and Kingshighway, is expected to be finished by the end of summer.
All this construction is a result of student demand. Lindenwood is experiencing steady growth, with an estimated 15,000 students projected for the 2009-2010 academic year.
