Lindenwood University Honors College

The University Experience is one of the most profound engagements of a lifetime. Little can equal this period of several years, sequestered from the demands of daily life, in a nurturing environment where mentors and friends seek to enrich and deepen your scope. No other civilization has made this opportunity so broadly available. Fortunate are the students who have the wisdom, even in youth, to explore and avail themselves of the many possibilities placed before them. The Honors College is one such opportunity. The program encourages students to aim high that they may flourish in their careers, triumph over adversity, and live fulfilling and meaningful lives. The Honors College at Lindenwood University offers academic distinction to top performing students. Augmenting the academic program, the Honors College annually presents students and faculty discussion sessions analyzing current events and perennial issues. Such occasions stimulate camaraderie and intellectual curiosity among students and faculty alike.

Becoming an Honors Scholar
Students are recognized as being Honors Scholars only if they enroll and are accepted into the Honors College, maintain a 3.3 GPA, and take courses for Honors credit.

Incoming Freshman
Incoming freshmen with an ACT score of 29 or greater are encouraged to join the Honors Program. They may begin enrolling in honors classes during their first semester on campus. In order to determine the course sections designed specifically for honors credit, an interested student may ask his/her admission counselor, his/her advisor, or Dr. Michael Whaley (mwhaley@lindenwood.edu)

University Honors
The Honors College offers students a special opportunity to graduate with University Honors. Students graduating with University Honors receive special recognition at the Commencement ceremony and at the Honors Convocation. “University Honors” is also designated on the diploma and transcript. The transcript also reflects each course the student completed for Honors credit.

University Honors are reserved for exceptional students who demonstrate intelligence, initiative, and perseverance in fulfilling requirements beyond those asked of others. Meeting these expectations exhibits their commitment to excellence.

To graduate with University Honors, a student must complete 24 hours of Honors credit, 18 hours of which must be taken in classes numbered 200 or above.

All courses offered at the University are available for Honors credit. Certain sections of courses are designated Honors. In all other courses the student must request permission of the professor and complete a mutually agreed upon Honors project suitable to the course. The student must earn an “A” in the course to receive Honors credit.
