Economics and the Environment Course

An upper level elective course on “Economics and the Environment” has been established to provide students with a different perspective of how our economic interests interact with our concerns for the environment. Students learn about opportunity costs, private property rights and how prices reflect scarcity and ration the use of resources. They also learn about the role of government in enforcing the “rules of the game” and in causing private parties to incorporate “external costs” in their decision-making. The course, BA383, is offered in the fall semester. The class may be taken as an honors class, requiring an added research component.

BA 383 Students take a journey back in time with a visit to Lindenwood University’s Boone Home and Boonesfield Village. Students gain an appreciation of the relationship of the 19th century American frontier economy with the bounty of nature.
