Lindenwood University

A four-year liberal arts institution, Lindenwood University offers more than 80 undergraduate and graduate degree programs.

Lindenwood University has a strong commitment to the arts. This commitment includes the art of Fashion Design.

Lindenwood University strives to be equal with other nationally acclaimed fashion institutions. We offer competitive professional-level training to better prepare our students for an exciting career in the fashion industry. The Fashion Design Program leads to either a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.

Fashion Program

Courses offered include basic and intermediate sewing, patternmaking, draping illustration, fibers, and industry approved CAD programs. Students also produce their own collections through independent study programs. In addition to fashion courses, students are instructed in business, retail, and art.

Since adding the Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fashion Design in 1997, Lindenwood University has placed two students with international designers in London. Our students are assisted in securing internships, which allow students to apply what they have learned in the program while earning the credits required for graduation..

Fashion Design

Prospective fashion designers must be artistically creative, yet understand the technical and marketing aspects of the business as well.

Besides being responsible for the original ideas for garments, designers must have a thorough knowledge of fabrics and colors, must be able to make patterns, and must understand how a garment is constructed.

Fashion Design as a Major

Fashion Design as a major has a variety of various areas of career potential. We are dedicated to providing our students with professional-level training for careers in design, patternmaking, illustration, merchandising, textiles and more.

Our design students have the privilege of working with instructors who have experience in the industry, thus creating a more professional educational environment.

Fashion Show

Each year culminates in a fashion exhibition entirely produced by students not only from the fashion program, but also from retail, theater, and art. The fashion exhibition includes the "senior" collection. We also encourage beginning design students to participate to receive any and all experience possible. At Lindenwood University, commitment to the arts leads to a commitment to students. The original garments are modeled by a variety of students, and professional models. This anticipated event is a commencement of professional experience for students.
