Sunghee Hinners, DMA

Instructor - Piano

“Enchanting” is the word that the Netzwerkzeitung used to describe Sunghee Lee Hinners” playing. 

Dr. Hinners has performed in several countries including Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Korea, Austria, China, and the United States.  During and after her education she toured with the world-famous saxophonist, John Edward Kelly. While touring in Europe, she was invited to perform as a guest artist at Kultur Herbst 2000, Junge Kuenstler Musik Ausser der Reihe, 100 Jahre Neue Musik, where she gave capacious solo concerts. 

Dr. Hinners earned a Doctorate of Musical Arts (D.M.A.) from the University of Iowa for piano performance and pedagogy.  She earned a Master of Music (M.M.) degree from the Düsseldorf Robert Schumann Musikhochschule graduating with Sehr Gut, the highest achievement possible in performance.  It was during her education in Germany that she studied with Roberto Szidon, and Michael Deichmann.  In addition, she studied privately with Van den Hoek at the Vienna Conservatory.

Dr. Hinners currently holds a position as piano faculty at Lindenwood University. She is also a member of the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA). Additionally, Dr. Hinners judges music competitions in the St. Louis area. 

Dr. Hinners provides master classes at colleges in the United States for contemporary music and extended piano techniques.  She has given several seminars and lecture-recitals to educate musicians regarding the extended techniques used in modern piano music. She is a regular performer of works including the following: solo, piano concertos, chamber music, ensembles, and orchestral works.  Dr. Hinners is a passionate player who captivates the audience with her eloquent musicianship.
