Assistant Professor of Communications
Spellmann Center 0114
Kay Hammond earned her MBA from Lindenwood in 1996 Magna Cum Laude. She took early retirement from Boeing and started teaching the very next day. She taught Information Systems, Microcomputer Applications, HTML, and now teaches Oral Communications. She is full of energy and thoroughly appreciates her second career. She models parts of her class after Toastmasters, incorporating table topics and current events. She is adamant about properly formatted paperwork and does not tolerate late assignments. She encourages the students to make the class interesting by their candid interaction, interesting speeches, and by their personal evaluations of fellow student speeches. It is a student- driven class. Taboo words are prohibited and the clicker is a constant reminder of this. She does value laughing and the associated camaraderie that comes with atmosphere of a speech class, but classroom etiquette is a must! She is a social butterfly and rarely turns down an invitation.
