Assistant Professor Tom Pettit began teaching journalism at Lindenwood University in 2006 after a 23-year career as a copy editor at the St. Louis Post- Dispatch.
In spring 2007, he was adviser to the launching of the first student newspaper at Lindenwood since 1989, The Legacy. Beginning in fall 2007 and since then, the newspaper has been published every two weeks each semester, maintaining 12 pages in each issue through the spring of 2012.
He teaches two classes of basic reporting each semester, along with editing, introduction to journalism and advising the applied class in newspaper.
His journalism degrees are from the University of Kansas, and in addition to Lindenwood, he has taught and advised publications at Emporia State University in Kansas and the University of Nebraska-Kearney. Besides the Post-Dispatch, he worked at the Omaha World-Herald, the Arizona Daily Star and the Albuquerque Journal. He and his wife, Nancy, live in Crestwood and they have four children adult children, the youngest, Grace, completing her degree work in graphic and web design at Lindenwood.
