A native of Detroit, Michigan, Dr. Raymond Scupin has been employed at Lindenwood University since 1981.
He and his wife Susan have two sons, two daughters in law, and one grandson.
Dr. Scupin earned his B.A. degree in History, Asian Studies,and Anthropology, from the University of California–Los Angeles. He completed
his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in anthropology at the University of California–Santa Barbara. He did extensive ethnographic fieldwork in Thailand with a focus on understanding the ethnic and religious movements among the Muslim minority. He was awarded two Fulbright Awards for research in Asia. He also did ethnographic research among Native American Indians in California. Before coming to Lindenwood he taught at Ramkhamhaeng University in Thailand, the University of California-Santa Barbara, and Northern Kentucky University. In 1999 he received the
Missouri Governor’s Teaching Award. In 2008, he received the President’s Scholar of the Year award. Military Service: US Army, Alaska 1966-68.
