The National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) is the professional membership association for certified athletic trainers and others who support the athletic training profession. Founded in 1950, the NATA has grown to more than 35,000 members worldwide today. The Board of Certification, Inc. (BOC) was incorporated in 1989 to provide a certification program for entry-level Athletic Trainers (ATs). The BOC establishes and regularly reviews both the standards for the practice of athletic training and the continuing education requirements for BOC Certified ATs. The BOC has the only accredited certification program for ATs in the US.
The purpose of the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) is to develop, maintain, and promote appropriate minimum education standards of quality athletic training programs. CAATE accredits Professional, Post-Professional and Residency Programs in Athletic Training. Each institution is responsible for demonstrating compliance with the Standards to obtain and maintain recognition as a CAATE-accredited athletic training program. CAATE is responsible for the evaluation of a program’s compliance with the Standards. The Standards provide minimum academic requirements; institutions are encouraged to develop sound innovative educational approaches that substantially exceed these Standards.
Established in 1984, the Missouri Athletic Trainers' Association is a not-for-profit organization of athletic trainers and other allied health personnel concerned with the care of athletes.
