What time do candidates need to be there?

All graduating students choosing to participate in the ceremony are required to check in for the ceremony at the check-in tables by entering through gate 4. Graduate students should check-in by 6 p.m. Undergraduate students should check-in by 9 a.m. Gates will open at 5:30 p.m., Friday, May 13 and 8:30 a.m., Saturday, May 14, 2016.

What happens at the check-in table?

All graduating students will receive a card with a lineup row and number. The card will also list a seating row and number. Students should then proceed to lineup prior to Commencement at the lineup row and number noted on the card. Students will line-up and be seated with other students within their School.

Do guests need tickets?

Guests will not need tickets for the 2016 May ceremonies. Guest seating will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

What time should guests arrive?

The St. Charles Family Arena will open to the public at 5:30 p.m., Friday, May 13, 2016 and at 8:30 a.m., Saturday, May 14, 2016.

How long does the ceremony usually last?

The ceremony will be approximately 1.5 to 2 hours in length.

How do I order my cap and gown for the ceremony?

Order online at the Herff Jones website between February 1 and March 11, 2016, by 11:59 p.m. at www.herffjones.com/college/lindenwood.

Do I have to wear a cap and gown to the commencement ceremony?

Yes, all faculty and students taking part in the graduation ceremony are required to wear traditional academic attire.

Can I participate if I already have a cap and gown from somewhere else?

No. Graduating students must order a cap and gown from Herff Jones. Herff Jones provides Lindenwood with a list of students who have placed orders online or in person, and this list is used to generate the lineup and seating for the ceremony. If you have not ordered from Herff Jones, you will not have a place in the lineup or a place in the graduating student seating area.

Will my name be read?

Yes. All graduating students come to the stage - their names are read as they walk across the stage from the card they receive at check-in, they are congratulated by the President and Dean of School, and they receive a diploma cover from the President.

Does LU offer a name pronunciation tool?

LU partners with NameCoach, students may record their diploma name via the NameCoach website so our reader(s) may review and practice before the ceremonies. An email with the NameCoach information will be sent to students that order regalia.

How will students line-up for the ceremony?

Students will line-up and be seated with other students within their School.

Do I qualify for general honors, and how do I get my honors cords?

The Lindenwood faculty awards general honors to those undergraduate students who have completed all degree requirements with academic distinction. To be eligible for general honors, a student must have completed a minimum of 60 semester hours in residence at Lindenwood University. Students whose Lindenwood cumulative grade point averages fall within the following ranges are eligible for Cum Laude (3.70 to 3.85), Magna Cum Laude (3.86 to 3.93), or Summa Cum Laude (3.94 to 4.00). Students must have achieved the minimum cumulative GPA by the end of the academic quarter, semester, or J-Term preceding the May Commencement. General honors cannot be based on the estimated outcome of terms in progress at the time of the May Commencement. Please note: General honors are not awarded to graduate, specialist, or doctoral students.

When and where do I pick up my honors cords?

Honors cords will be distributed to eligible undergraduate students at graduation check-in on the day of the ceremony. Undergraduate students will be issued the appropriate honors cord at the check-in table.

Do Graduate students receive general honors?

No.

Do I have to wear my hood during the ceremony if I am a graduate student?

Graduate students will receive caps, gowns, tassels, and hoods in the mail or in person on the designated day. Graduate students should wear all items including the hood when they arrive for check-in at Commencement.

Do I have a graduation fee and what does it include?

The Business Office wishes to congratulate this year’s graduates and would like to remind students to review their account balance in their student portal. The account balance should be resolved by Friday, March 11, 2016. Undergraduate students pay a graduation fee of $100 that covers the entire cost of graduation processing and commencement, including diplomas, caps, and gowns. The $125 fee for graduate students and $200 fee for doctoral students includes diplomas, caps, gowns, hoods, and other applicable fees. All outstanding Lindenwood charges must be paid before diplomas are released. All graduating students must pay the graduation fee regardless of whether they choose to participate in the ceremony.

Is there a graduation rehearsal I need to attend?

No, there is no rehearsal.

When do I get my diploma?

Diplomas will be mailed directly to the student’s billing address listed in our student information system if the account balance does not have a delinquent balance. Please review your billing address within your student portal to ensure that it is correct, you may change the address by clicking the “edit” button. Diplomas will NOT go to any addresses that are changed after the 15th of the degree conferral month (March 15, May 15, June 15 or August 15). Diplomas will be mailed between five and eight weeks after the conferral date (March 30, May 30, June 30 or August 30). Conferral date is defined as the date on which your degree is officially awarded, it will not be the Commencement date. All graduating students will receive one copy of their transcript at no charge that will be mailed separately from the diploma, four to six weeks after the degree is conferred.

Will professional photos be taken?

Lindenwood University contracts with GradImages® to photograph each graduate at Baccalaureate and Commencement. These photos are taken of graduates 1) receiving their diploma, 2) standing in front of a Lindenwood banner, and 3) a close-up photograph. Graduates can pre-register their e-mail, and GradImages will contact them when their photos are available for online viewing and ordering. While there is no obligation to make a purchase, proofs will be emailed and mailed to each student’s address. Up to 6 (six) family members’ contact information may be added to help share the good news and the photos by going to the GradImages site at
