Adjunct Instructor - Survey of Dance

Type of Position: Faculty

Location: St. Charles

Starting Date: Fall Quarter 2015

Purpose of Position: Teach survey of dance courses to liberal studies majors.

Duties & Responsibilities: Prepare and teach weekly classes as described in the adjunct faculty handbook. Use Blackboard software to post grades, upload syllabus, and respond to student questions.  Use faculty portal to report attendance, and midterm and final grades as prescribed in the adjunct faculty handbook.  Teach from the standard syllabus for the courses for which you have been contracted, using your strengths to enrich that syllabus.

Education Requirements: Master’s degree in dance, MFA, MAT, or related field with a minimum of 18 semester hours of credit in graduate dance courses.  The courses taught in this cluster are Introduction to Dance, Dance as an Art, and Dance in the 21st Century.

Experience Requirements: Previous classroom teaching is preferred.  This can include graduate teaching assistantships, adjunct positions at the college level, or high school teaching experience.  Computer literacy, ability to teach in a seminar setting with classes of 14 students, good communication skills, ability to meet with classes at the regularly scheduled times and days, ability to schedule make up classes when the class falls on a holiday.

Hours/Days: Classes are taught one night per week over the quarter from 6:00 – 10:00 p.m., usually on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday. There is some flexibility in choosing the night, and the location. There is no flexibility in the hours.
