The master’s degree in International Studies is a one year program designed for those who wish to increase their understanding of global issues in order to pursue further graduate study or to prepare for international or government employment or to work in the fields of consulting, business, banking, teaching, or international journalism. The curriculum is multidisciplinary and utilizes material from the fields of International Relations, Anthropology, Religion, History, Geography, Economics, Sociology, Law, and Management.
Core Courses and Track Offerings
The one-year masters’ program combines courses from the social sciences and humanities with practical and theoretical training. Students will typically complete the program within a 12 month period (depending upon the academic background of the student). The curriculum consists of ten courses, completed in a three courses sequence per term. The core courses are:
- Research Methods in International Studies
- Approaches to International Political Theory
- Globalization and Economic Governance
- Governance Beyond the State
- Security Studies
- The Politics of Religion, Ethnicity, and Nationalism
- International Business Principles
- Peace and Conflict Resolution
- Thesis, I, II
Students are also required to select an emphasis track in International Business, Non-Profit Administration, Public Administration or Religion and Culture. Students will need to take three courses in one of these tracks, which will help the student develop a thesis topic.
