Student Learning Outcomes

SLO #1: Students will be aware of global history and diversity.

Component 1: Possess a fundamental knowledge of human history.
Component 2: Relate the history of scientific discovery to modern scientific developments.
Component 3: Understand how contemporary mathematic disciplines are rooted in human history.
Component 4: Demonstrate knowledge of non-‐U.S. cultures.

 SLO #2: Students will develop a sense of responsible citizenship.

Component 1: Understand U.S. history.
Component 2: Understand the U.S. political system.
Component 3: Relate U.S. history and government to contemporary American developments.

SLO #3: Students will communicate effectively.

Component 1: Identify the parts and functions of an effective rhetorical argument.
Component 2: Outline and organize research.
Component 3: Distinguish between formal and informal presentation styles and standards.
Component 4: Speak effectively to an audience.

SLO #4: Students will draw from a variety of disciplines to arrive at coherent, educated opinions.

Component 1: Apply knowledge of science and scientific method to common practical problems.
Component 2: Recognize mathematics as part of culture.
Component 3: Understand relationship between visual and/or performing arts and disciplines outside the arts.
Component 4: Differentiate between different ethical or moral systems.

Component 2: Argue a thesis based on critical evaluation of a text or work of art.

Component 1: Collaborate effectively with others in establishing group goals and negotiating roles for accomplishing those goals.
