MUPC - History

History of the Missouri Undergraduate Psychology Conference (MUPC)

The Missouri Undergraduate Psychology Conference (MUPC) first met in 2005 on the campus of Avila University in Kansas City, Missouri. Maria Hunt, PhD, was the first Conference Director. Subsequently, MUPC has held annual November meetings, providing a forum for undergraduates in Missouri and neighboring states to present reports of experimental and applied research. The opportunity to present in the fall offers a rare opportunity for students, especially those applying to graduate school, a process that typically occurs over the fall and early spring semesters. The conference continues to provide opportunities for both poster and oral presentations encompassing empirical, non-empirical, and applied experiences in which psychology students share their discoveries and hone their communication and critical thinking skills.

In fall 2013, a new component was put in place by Park University that would allow students to submit virtual oral presentations. This option was designed to allow students at a distance, or who otherwise cannot make the trip to the conference site, to present their scholarship and received constructive feedback from the conference judges. Unfortunately, no virtual submissions were received in 2013.
