Honors keep coming for soccer Lions
December 4, 2000
After concluding the best season in Lindenwood history, the awards keep on coming for the men's soccer team. Two LU players, Nesa Stefanovic and Branko Savic, were named NAIA all-Americans.
Stefanovic, a junior from Beldgrade, Yugoslavia, was a first-team all-American and led the nation in scoring with 47 goals. He fell just four goals short of the NAIA all-time record of 51. Savic, a freshman from Belgrade, was a second-team all-American and scored 20 goals for the Lions.
Ryan LeTulle, a junior from Topeka, KN, and Jake Bleyenberg, a senior from Kansas City, MO, both were honorable mention all-Americans. All four athletes were first-team all-Region V.
But that's not all. The Lions excelled in the classroom too. Stefanovic and Maxim Popov, from Lipetsk, Russia, were selected as NAIA scholar athletes. To earn that honor, it takes a junior standing and a 3.5 grade point average.
