Jazz Band to hold final concert of season April 15
April 10, 2000
Lindenwood University's Jazz Band and Combo will conclude another great season with their final concert at 7:30 p.m. on April 15 at the Lindenwood Cultural Center, 400 N. Kingshighway in St. Charles (two blocks north of the main campus). General admission tickets will be available at the door for $3 apiece.
The concert will makr the final Lindenwood performances of a few of the band's senior members, including Michelle Kohlenhoefer, on trupet; Donnie Jones, on piano; Robert Jackson, vocalist; and Angie Cox, on tenor sax.
The program will include many of the pieces the band played at its February concert with Grammy-winner Randy Brecker, including "Fever," by John Davenport and Eddie Colley; "Come Rain, Come Shine," by Johnny Mercer and Harold Arlen; "Manteca," by Dizzy Gillespie, and "All Right, Okay, You Win," by Sid Wyche and Mayme Watts.
Band Director Bob Carter said the band is still riding a wave of enthusiasm from the Brecker concert and its subsequent tour to New Orleans, where it played for enthusiastic crowds at six high schools--including Academy of the Sacred Heart, Xavier, University Prep and Jesuit High School, the alma mater of Harry Connick Jr--from March 19-25. Additionally, Carter and members of the band had the opportunity to sit in on some performances at venues in the French Quarter.
"It was incredible...the reception we got," said Carter. "We were very well-received, and I later received a letter indicating a fantastic response from the administrators of the schools we visited. I can honestly say the band has never played better. They just ate it up."
