Lindenwood University softball coach Rob Westling earned his 500th career victory Tuesday, May 2 in the nightcap of a doubleheader against Meramec Community College. The Lady Lions swept the twinbill, winning the first game 4-0 and giving their coach "No. 500" in the second game with a 2-0 win.
"The team always has been more important to me than individual accolades," said Westling. "I am thrilled, but I couldn't have accomplished it without the support of Lindenwood and the talented young women who have played here or are here now."
Westling is just the third NAIA softball coach to reach the 500-victory plateau and the first in the Heart of America Conference.
In the first game of the doubleheader, LU hurler Sallie Henry struck out four, allowed just one hit and walked no one. It was her 11th win of the year. Outfielder Michelle Patrico was 2-for-3 and first baseman Dawn Cameron doubled in two of Lindenwood's four runs.
In the second game, Cameron earned her 17th victory of the season. She had no walks and allowed just one hit. Shortstop Tamara Waltz tripled in both Lindenwood runs.
The Lady Lions' record stands at 28-9 entering the Midwest Regionals.
