"The Night of the Iguana" opens April 19

Lindenwood University theatre students will perform Tennessee Williams' "The Night of the Iguana" at 8 p.m. on April 19, 20, 21, 26, 27 and 28 in the Jelkyl Theatre in Roemer Hall on the university's St. Charles campus.

Tickets for the show cost $8 for adults and $5 for seniors. To reserve tickets , call the Lindenwood Box Office at (636) 949-4878 between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. Friday.

Heading the cast as the Rev. T. Lawrence Shannon is senior Joshua Rowan of St. Louis. Freshmen DeAnna Jarrell of New Orleans, LA. and Brooke Soptic of Independence, MO. play Maxine Faulk and Hanna Jelkes respectively.

Others in the cast include: graduate student Pamela Williams of Columbia, MO; seniors Jim Caskanett of St. Louis, Aaron J. Hicks of Imperial, MO., Jamie Pitt of Memphis, TN., and Tim Schaffer of Cary, N.C.; junior Craig Horton of Southaven, MI and sophomore Lydia Warwick of St. Charles. Rounding out the cast are freshmen Simon Ahmed of St. Louis; Matt Klingler of Imperial, MO., John Lay of St. Peters, MO., and Jennifer Wells of St. Louis.

Critics consider "The Night of the Iguana" as one of Williams' finest works. The play takes place at a cheap Mexican resort hotel and explores the relationships of three distinct characters: the tough, lusty widow who runs the resort, a neurotic defrocked minister, and a gentle spinster from New England. The play is intended for mature audiences.
