The Lindenwood University Department of Theatre will open its 2006-2007 Mainstage Season on Thursday, Sept. 28, in Jelkyl Theatre with “American Rosies: Women at Work in WWII,” written and directed by MFA candidate L. Patton Chiles, former artistic director of Historyonics Theatre Company.
“American Rosies: Women at Work in WWII” is a charming, nostalgic look back at the women who worked in the munitions plants during World War II. Songs from the era, such as “The White Cliffs of Dover,” are interspersed throughout enactments of actual interviews conducted with women from the St. Louis region who worked in these factories.
The play was originally produced at Historyonics Theatre Company, opening September 14, 2001, three days after the attacks of 9/11. “American Rosies” has been adapted specifically for Lindenwood University from the original production and has an expanded cast of 12 women and 5 men.
It is an epic story about duty to country. It is also about the transforming change in women’s lives that gave birth to the women’s movement of the 1960s.
Performances are 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 28, 29 and 30 and Oct. 6 and 7 with a 2 p.m. matinee on Sept. 30.
Ticket prices are $10 for general admission, $8 for seniors (age 55 and older) and $6 for students (ages 5-18). For reservations, contact the Box Office at 636-949-4878. Group rates are available.
