Panel Discussion on Blogging is June 27

Lindenwood University will host a panel discussion on blogging as part of Media Literacy Week at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 27, at the main Lindenwood campus in St. Charles. The two-hour event will be in the Anheuser Busch Leadership Room on the fourth floor of the Spellmann Campus Center.

The event is organized by Lindenwood communications faculty member Jill Schroeder. The panel will consist of a number of St. Louis-area bloggers and web experts who will talk about and answer questions on different aspects of the world of blogging. The panel will include Jill Hampton, web producer for KTVI-TV; Dana Loesch, blogger and writer of the Post-Dispatch column Mamalogues; and St. Louis-area bloggers Benjamin Vierck and Steve Patterson. The moderator will be Lindenwood faculty member Kammie Kobyleski.

The program will cover blogging by students and teachers and the role of blogging in journalism, politics and sports, among others. The event is a part of a week of local activities around St. Louis being conducted for Media Literacy Education Week (June 24-30) in cooperation with a national group called Alliance for a Media-Literate America, which is holding its fourth biennial National Media Education Conference in St. Louis. The local events are being organized by the St. Louis group Gateway Media Literacy Partners.

Schroeder said the target audience for the event, admission to which is free, is people who are curious about blogging or are active bloggers and want to network and learn how to drive more people to their sites.

“I’m excited the Lindenwood is able to host this kind of discussion about blogging,” Schroeder said. “I’m thrilled to see these stellar panelists participate, and I’m looking forward to learning a lot from them.”
