Lecturer To Address 'Mirage Of Sustainable Energy'
September 18, 2007
Dr. Robert L. Bradley, Jr., president of the non-profit Institute for Energy Research, will speak at Lindenwood University at 3 p.m. on Thursday, October 4, in the Leadership Room (4th floor) in the Spellmann Center on the Lindenwood campus.
Bradley’s speech, titled “Enron and the Mirage of Sustainable Energy,” will be the first in the 2007-08 Economic Policy Lecture Series, which is presented jointly by the university’s Division of Management and Institute for the Study of Economics and the Environment. Admission is free and the lecture is open to the public.
Bradley has written several books and numerous essays on the history of energy regulation and market approaches to energy-policy reform.
“A current mantra among energy planners is the sustainability of renewable energies such as wind and solar power,” Bradley says. “Enron made major investments in a wind company and a solar company and offered one-stop energy outsourcing for large energy users. Why did Enron choose to invest in these frontier areas, and how did these initiatives turn out? What are the lessons for today’s debates over energy and climate policy?”
