This timeless, entertaining story of redemption continues to enchant audiences with its simple message of selfless giving and its exploration of the atmosphere of mid 19th century London. Ebenezer Scrooge learns to embrace the “true Christmas spirit” and that mankind must help one another as he survives a series of revelations by the ghosts of past, present and future.
“This production of ‘A Christmas Carol’ is special for one very notable reason,” said Gregory. “It is the last production of the annual Lindenwood holiday favorite to be held in Jelkyl Theatre.”
For the past 30 years, audiences from Lindenwood and the surrounding community have come to Jelkyl Theatre to enjoy Dickens’ classic. Starting next year, the play will be staged in Lindenwood’s new Center for Fine and Performing Arts, which is currently under construction and slated for completion in 2008.
“We are using the original script adapted by the department in the 1970s–a script that holds true, as much as possible, to the story originally penned by Charles Dickens in his beloved novel,” Gregory said. “There are members of the community that have been loyal followers of this production from year to year. I wouldn't be surprised if there are audience members that have been to five or ten, if not all of the productions of ‘A Christmas Carol’ since it first became an annual tradition here at Lindenwood University. I feel extremely fortunate to be able to direct the farewell production of ‘A Christmas Carol’ in Jelkyl Theatre.”
