Local High Schools to Compete in History Bowl Finals


Lindenwood University will host the finals of its inaugural televised High School History Bowl at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 18, in the studios of its television station, LU TV-26 in Young Hall on the main campus at 209 S. Kingshighway in St. Charles.

Teams from Francis Howell High School in St. Charles County and Metro Academic and Classical High School in St. Louis will compete in the championship round. The public are invited to attend as part of the studio audience or to watch on television as the competition is broadcast live on Charter Cable’s channel 26.

The opening rounds were held on Saturday, Nov. 10, and were taped for rebroadcast on LU TV-26 on Monday, Nov. 10. Participating schools included the two finalists and Fort Zumwalt West High School, Webster Groves High School, Washington High School, Ladue Horton Watkins High School, Hazelwood Central High School and Warrenton High School.

Contestants for Francis Howell include John Sahrmann, Matt Rickard, and Rachel Guthrie. Team members for Metro High School include Charles Fliss, Emily Luft and Yan Zhu.

All students in the competition will receive a tournament T-shirt, a DVD of the broadcast, lunch and various parting gifts. The winning team will be awarded the invitational trophy, and team members will be eligible for scholarships to Lindenwood. The competition will be held annually. The competition is co-sponsored by Lindenwood’s history and political science departments, and LU TV-26.
