Emerson Names Black Box Theatre in New Arts Facility

The 250-seat “black box” theatre in the new Lindenwood Center for Fine and Performing Arts will be named the Emerson Black Box Theatre, thanks to a generous donation by the Emerson Electric Co.

“We are proud that the black box theatre in the Lindenwood Center will bear the Emerson name,” said Dr. James D. Evans, president of Lindenwood University. “The Emerson Electric Co. has been a vital part of St. Louis for many years, and Lindenwood is pleased to be associated with it.”

The $32 million center is slated to open in fall 2008. The Emerson Black Box theatre will be used for studio productions, student theatrical projects, music, and dance; the building also includes a 1,200-seat theatre, a high-definition television studio, scene and costume shop facilities, art gallery space, classrooms and offices.

“The Lindenwood Center is an exciting project, and we are happy to take part,” said Robert Cox, senior vice president of Emerson Electric Co. “This facility will be a wonderful addition to the community. It will also be a great benefit for Lindenwood’s fine and performing arts students, who learn all facets of the arts industry, including management if they choose.”
