At its annual retreat held on July 11-12, the Lindenwood University Board of Directors approved the opening of a new campus at 1409 Washington Avenue in St. Louis, very near the City Museum.
The Washington Avenue site will be Lindenwood’s 10th extension campus and the first one in the “Windows on Washington” sector of St. Louis. Lindenwood’s new facility will occupy an entire floor of the building and will include newly constructed classrooms with Internet access and other high-tech features.
Classes, which will start early this fall, will include undergraduate offerings in Communications and graduate programs in Business (toward the MBA), Communications, and Human Resources. All classes will be offered through Lindenwood’s acclaimed College for Individualized Education (LCIE).
This accelerated format, which is specifically designed for working people, enables a student to earn nine semester hours per quarter by attending class one night a week for 12 weeks. Its other signature feature is a class size of no more than 14, which promotes small-group interaction, analysis, and discussion.
“An important part of Lindenwood’s institutional purpose is to provide opportunities for professional preparation and lifelong learning," said Lindenwood President James D. Evans. "With so many working professionals again taking up residence in the City, we feel the establishment of a Washington Avenue campus will serve a vital need for higher education services in the downtown area.”
According to Brett Barger, Lindenwood’s Dean of Evening and Graduate Admissions, there will be ample, conveniently located parking for students and faculty members.
“People who work downtown will find this new campus convenient because it will enable them to avoid traffic, save gas, and go to class near their places of work,” he said.
The program is expected to grow at a brisk pace over the next several years, Barger said, with more than 400 student enrollments expected in the first year and more than 1400 by the fifth year of operation.
