New Literary Journal to Debut
September 3, 2008
Lindenwood University will hold a celebration of the release of its new literary journal, “Untamed Ink,” from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 16, in Sibley Chapel on the main Lindenwood campus, at 209 S. Kingshighway, St. Charles, Mo., 63301.
The event will include readings by some of the journals contributors and free copies of the journal while supplies last. Readers will include Dwight Bitikofer, distinguished member of the Saint Louis Writers Guild, journal editors Alexander Balogh and Michael Fetters and many others.
Admission is free and open to the public. The event represents the public’s first chance to see the newest literary journal in the St. Louis area. The journal, which will be published annually in the fall, is 96 pages and contains 29 poems and 5 short stories. Contributors range from Lindenwood faculty like Fetters, Balogh, Michael Castro and Spencer Hurst to renowned St. Louis-area writer Howard Schwartz and famed Hungarian poet Gabor Gyukics.
“We hatched the idea for the journal to fill a void,” Balogh said. “Lindenwood hadn’t had one in 10 years. We wanted to do something of a nationwide quality that people would be interested in picking up outside of the St. Louis area.”
The name of the journal has to do with freedom of thought and expression, Balogh said. “It has many themes throughout,” Balogh said. “It should appeal to writers and anyone looking for a good read.”
Balogh said he and Fetters began receiving submissions for the journal about a year ago, nine months after they submitted the proposal for the publication. Submissions are currently being accepted for next year’s edition of “Untamed Ink.” For complete submission guidelines, visit the journal’s website at www.lindenwood.edu/untamedink.
Prior to the release event, the book is available for $4 through mail order; after the release event, the book will sell for $6 (or $11 for the first two issues) by sending payment and shipping information to:
