Check Out Robotics Competition on Dec. 13

Lindenwood University will play host to the inaugural Partners for Progress FIRST Lego League Robotics Competition for middle school students.

The competition will be from 8:30 a.m. until about 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13 in the Robert F. Hyland Performance Arena on Lindenwood’s main campus, located at 209 South Kingshighway in St. Charles.

Competing will be 12 teams from the St. Louis/St. Charles County area. Team members, each working with the same kind of Lego robot kit, will have to program them to do specific things. Judging will be based on how well a team’s robot performs the prescribed tasks.

The competition is part of an education initiative by Partners for Progress, a 28-member civic organization of major employers in St. Charles County. The organization has been involved in other events involving robotics education and demonstrations as part of an effort to promote interest in math, engineering, technology, and science (known as METS) among students at all grade levels.

In addition to hosting the event, Lindenwood is making scholarship money available to high school-age participants in the competition. For more information about the scholarships, call Joe Parisi or Sara Wiedman, in the Lindenwood Admissions Office, at 636-949-4812 or 636-949-4943, respectively.

“We are pleased to be able host this event,” said James D. Evans, Ph.D., president of Lindenwood University. “Competitions like this one are a great way to build excitement in technology among young people.”
