Theatre Program to Present ‘Comic Potential’ in Studio Series

March 26, 2009

The Lindenwood University Theatre Program will present the satire “Comic Potential” as part of its Studio Series at 7:30 p.m. on April 23, 24, and 25 in the university’s Emerson Black Box Theater.

Tickets cost $10 and are available at the Lindenwood Box Office (636-949-4433) and online at The box office and the Emerson Black Box Theater are located in the university’s J. Scheidegger Center for the Arts, at 2300 W. Clay Street, in St. Charles.

The cast includes James Krawczyk, Nicole Ogden, Jason Puff, Sarah Porter, Lindsay Bartlett, Tasha Zebrowski, Alex Cooper, Stephen J. Heffernan, Megan Jones, Brian Kappler, Jenni Passig, Parth Patel, Kimi Wibbenmeyer and Ryan Wood. The director is Marsha Parker, Lindenwood’s dean of fine and performing arts.

A hilarious satire of television and a touching romantic comedy, “Comic Potential,” by Alan Ayckbourn, begins in a television studio where a hospital soap opera is being taped. One actor starts speaking gibberish; he is an “actoid,” a robot, and his programming is off kilter.

Adam, the young nephew of the producer and an aspiring writer, is on the set and starts chatting with Jacie Tripplethree, the actoid (serial number JCF31333) playing the nurse. He finds, to his surprise, that not only can she carry on a conversation but, due to what she calls a fault in her programming, she has a creative imagination.

Adam wants to build a new television series around her but the studio will not hear of it. He also finds he is falling in love with the charming robot.
