Join the Historic Daniel Boone Home and Boonesfield Village in Defiance for their Annual Pioneer Days living history event September 19 and 20, 2009. Witness first hand life on the Missouri frontier and experience the hard work, dedication, and struggles felt by the men and women of that time.
Pioneer Days will begin each day at 9 a.m. and end at 5 p.m. This will be a great event for the entire family. The event will cost is $7 for adults, $6 for seniors (age 55 and older) and $4 for children (ages 4-11). For children age 3 and under, admission is free. Family passes are $25 and include two adults and up to three children. Groups of 10 or more are subject to a group rate with a two week prior notice.
Boonesfield Village will be transformed into a pioneer encampment. Each day will be filled with activities, demonstrations, games, and presentations. Some of these include: dance demonstrations, mini concerts, fife and drums performances, candle making, cannon shoots, pottery demonstrations, blacksmithing, and wood crafts. There will also be a few special presentations offered, including a first-person slave reenactment and a chance to meet Daniel Boone and his biographer John Filson. To make the weekend especially fun for the kids, there will be a full two days of children’s games including sac races, three-legged races, town ball, cracker whistling contest, scavenger hunt, and a maze to go through.
Also back this year due to popular demand will be a blanket shoot competition. All guns are to be pre-1840’s muzzleloaders and will be subject to inspection prior to shoot.
As always, the Daniel Boone Home will be open for tours. The home is a four-story Georgian-style mansion that was built overlooking the Femme Osage Valley. Admission for the house tour will be sold separately.
