Students Oppose Access Missouri Cuts

The Lindenwood University Student Government Association (LSGA) has organized a letter-writing campaign from 6 to 11:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 10, in the Connection Center on the first floor of the Spellmann Campus Center. Students will have the opportunity to voice their opposition to Senate Bill 784, which seeks to reduce the amount of financial aid awarded to those attending four-year private institutions through the state-funded Access Missouri grant program.

If the proposal passes, many college students across the state would be hit with a reduction in financial aid. The LSGA invites all students and faculty to attend the Feb. 10 event to ensure lawmakers are aware of their view of the bill.

“Each person who comes to the Connection Center that night will get a packet of blank paper and envelopes,” said LSGA member Dan Bedell. “We will have on-hand the contact information of state senators and state representatives as well as a few sample letters. But we will encourage everyone to write in their own words what it means to them.”
