Pioneer Days Bring Missouri’s Frontier Era to Life

Defiance, Mo.— Bring History to life at Lindenwood University’s Historic Daniel Boone Home Annual Pioneer Days Sept. 18 and 19. Step back into the early 19th century and visit with musicians, artisans, craftsman, and those men and woman who dared to blaze the path into the unknown. Meet with the legendary hero Daniel Boone in his home and listen to the amazing tales of his adventures.

The event begins both days at 9 a.m. and ends at 5 p.m. Admission is $12 for adults, $10 for seniors (55 and older), and $6 for children (age 4-11). Family passes and group rates are available with a two-week prior reservation. Call 636-798-2005 for details or visit www.lindenwood.edu/boone. Activities and special programs will take place throughout the day, including period music, a black powder shoot, blacksmithing, pottery, Dutch oven cooking and more. Children will also be able to partake in the fun with tomahawk throwing, sack races, tug-of-war tournaments, hay mazes, and all sorts of period games and activities.

The site’s historic pioneer village will be transformed into a living town with men and women of the time carrying out their daily activities. Visitors will view the many historic buildings including the Carpenter’s shop, the General Mercantile, the schoolhouse, the grist mill, and, of course, the Daniel Boone Home.

Located at 1868 Highway F in Defiance, Mo., the Daniel Boone Home is the house in which the legendary explorer and frontiersman spent his final years. The four-story Georgian-style home was built overlooking the Femme Osage Valley. The adjoining Boonefield Village contains a dozen other 19th century building that have been moved from the area and are used to represent town life on the frontier.
