Dr. Paige Mettler-Cherry has been named dean of academics at Lindenwood University-Belleville; she previously served as an associate professor of biology and chair of the Biology Department at Lindenwood's St. Charles, Mo., campus.
Mettler-Cherry, who has been on the Lindenwood faculty since 2004, had served as the chair of biology at since 2007 and was the recipient of the President’s Scholar-Teacher Award for the 2008-2009 academic year.
An internationally published research scientist, Mettler-Cherry’s work as a plant ecologist has focused on endangered wetland plant species; she has received grants from the Environmental Protection Agency, the Missouri Department of Conservation, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Her research has primarily focused on the Illinois River Valley and the threatened species Boltonia decurrens.
Through her position as Dean of Academics, Mettler-Cherry will supervise the hiring of faculty and will ensure that the academic programs Lindenwood-Belleville offers are of the highest quality.
“My primary focus is the students and the education we are providing them here at Lindenwood,” she said.
Mettler-Cherry said she plans to expand the university’s degree programs while maintaining the highest academic standards. A native of Highland, Illinois, and resident of Belleville, Mettler-Cherry says she is “deeply committed to this region and to ensuring the success of Lindenwood University in Belleville. This is my home.”
Mettler-Cherry has a bachelor’s degree from McKendree College and a master’s degree in biological sciences from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in 1996. She completed her doctorate in plant biology at Southern Illinois University Carbondale in 2004.
