Karimpour Selected to Head Mathematics Department

Dr. Rahim Karimpour has been appointed chair of Lindenwood University-Belleville’s Department of Mathematics, effective Aug. 1. His duties will include hiring mathematics faculty, overseeing student assessment testing and advising processes, and contributing to the overall growth of the University’s traditional day program.

A professor emeritus of Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, Karimpour most recently served as department chair of mathematics at Prince Mohammad Ben Fahd University in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He is excited to apply his extensive experience in the field of higher education to his new role at Lindenwood’s growing Belleville campus.

“I believe I can make a difference at this university, and I’m eager to contribute my efforts to organizing its mathematics department,” said Karimpour.

His achievements in the field of mathematics include authoring numerous research papers, which have been published in scholarly journals and presented at national conferences. Additionally, he has applied for and received a host of grants benefitting minority scientists and math-related learning programs.

Karimpour has also authored several mathematics textbooks for both instructors and grade school students that have been used nationally throughout Iranian schools. Currently, he is writing a textbook on differential equations for use in upper level college courses.

“To have someone of Dr. Karimpour’s stature join us at LU-Belleville is incredibly exciting,” said Dr. Paige Mettler-Cherry, dean of academics at Lindenwood. “His depth and breadth of experience will be a tremendous benefit to our students and an integral part of building a solid foundation for the future growth of our traditional day program. It is an honor to work with someone of Dr. Karimpour’s credentials.”

Karimpour earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Tehran in 1958, a master’s degree from Michigan State University in 1966, and a doctorate from the University of Oregon in 1977.
