Shades of Blue U.S. Air Force Band to Perform

The Shades of Blue U.S. Air Force Band of Mid-America will perform a holiday concert at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 7, in Lindenwood University’s J. Scheidegger Center for the Arts, at 2300 West Clay St. in St. Charles.
The show, which will be in the Scheidegger Center’s 1,200-seat Bezemes Family Theater, is free, although tickets are required for admission. Tickets may be obtained at the Scheidegger Center Box Office, 636-949-4433; the Scheidegger Center is located one block west of First Capitol Drive.
The 18-member Shades of Blue Jazz Ensemble consists of professional enlisted musicians whose repertoire ranges from traditional big band jazz, to bebop and swing, to modern jazz. The band plays a mix of contemporary material and classics from the likes of Count Basie and Glenn Miller. Several of the band's members are also gifted composers and arrangers, and their compositions are often featured in concerts.
The band has backed many jazz greats such as Tex Benecke, Denis DiBlasio, Jamey Aebersold, Mike Smith, Bobby Shew, Allen Vizzutti, Jeff Jarvis, Mike Vax, Vaughn Nark, Bill Porter, Carmen Bradford, Shelley Berg, Joe Morello, Steve Houghton, and Walt Levinsky. Furthermore, the ensemble is often requested for featured performances at jazz clinics and festivals throughout the country and has played for major sporting events and heads of state.
