Mayor York to Receive Lindy Award

March 18, 2011

The Lindenwood University School of Communications will host its annual Lindy Awards at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 24, in the Emerson Black Box Theater of the J. Scheidegger Center for the Arts.

Produced entirely by students, the program will honor St. Charles Mayor Patti York with the Communications Alumni of the Year Award and recognize individuals for their achievements in video production, writing, and acting.

“The Lindys are akin to Lindenwood’s version of the Emmy Awards,” said Peter Carlos, LUTV station manager and associate professor of communications. “Categories range from on-air talent to technical lighting and everything in between, and we give awards for a job well done in each of those areas.”

York was designated as this year’s recipient of the Communications Alumni of the Year Award for her impressive accomplishments in the community during her many years of public service. She has been the mayor of St. Charles since 1997, contributing to major developments such as the completion of the St. Charles Convention Center and Ameristar Casino.

York has maintained strong ties with Lindenwood since earning a bachelor’s degree in mass communication from the school in 1995. She earned a graduate degree in corporate communication from the University in 1997, has served as an adjunct professor at the school, and also witnessed her children attend Lindenwood.

“Our Communications Department has some great graduates out there, so it can be tough sometimes to select alum to receive our award,” Carlos said. “But with all that Mayor York has done in St. Charles and with our University, she was the obvious choice as this year’s honoree. We are proud she will accept the recognition and we are looking forward to hosting another wonderful awards show.”

The event is free and open to the public. Hors d’oeuvres will be served for one hour prior to the beginning of the program.
