Theatre to Present ‘One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest’

March 31, 2011

The Lindenwood University Theatre Department will present the stage version of the classic story, “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest,” at 7:30 p.m. on April 15-19 and 21-23 in the university’s Emerson Black Box Theater.

Tickets are available from the Lindenwood Box Office (636-949-4433) and online at The box office and the Emerson Theater are located in Lindenwood’s J. Scheidegger Center for the Arts at 2300 West Clay in St. Charles.

The play was written by Dale Wasserman from Ken Kesey’s novel of the same name, which was also made into an Academy Award-winning movie starring Jack Nicholson.

“The play is another view of the novel that is actually closer to Kesey’s original intent although the movie still captures the spirit of the story,” said Larry Quiggins, chair of the Lindenwood Theatre Department and director of the production. “It is definitely one of my favorite stories.”

Set in a dreary mental institution in the Pacific Northwest in 1960, the story follows Randle McMurphy (Jon Elkins), a charming rogue who has opted for time in a mental institution over jail time, befriends his fellow patients, and finds himself in a battle of wills with a harsh, intractable nurse (Emily Heitmeyer).

“This is a story that will shock you in some parts and make you stand and cheer in others,” Quiggins said.

The cast also includes David Schmich, David Moreshead, Brent Nowack, Josh Rowland, Jimmy Krawczyk, Joe Bayne, Cole Rommel, Cassie Ballard, Jason Puff, Adam Martinez, Shane Bosillo, Jaiymz Hawkins, Josh Payne, Parth Patel, Millie Naeger, Laura Gibbons, Jamal Mackey, Marvin Witherspoon, Eric Peters, Yumeho Asai, and Katie Ritter. Lyndsay Hicks is stage manager. Chuck Gallaher is scenic designer, and Keith Baranowski is lighting designer. Donna Northcott designed the costumes, and Sarah Thompson is the sound designer.
