Lindenwood University-Belleville has received approval from the Illinois Board of Higher Education to add a bachelor of arts degree in psychology to its growing list of undergraduate degree programs.
Undergraduate classes in psychology are available for the fall semester beginning in August 2011. A search has also begun to fill the new position of department chair for psychology.
“Starting this fall, we will offer both introductory and upper level courses in psychology to accommodate the needs of our incoming first-year students as well as transfer students who already have a background in psychology,” said Dr. Paige Mettler-Cherry, dean of academics. “This new degree will also serve to complement our well established and highly regarded graduate program in professional and school counseling.”
Jerry Bladdick, Lindenwood vice president and chief administrative officer, said the campus is committed to providing for the academic needs of its students. “The addition of a bachelor’s degree in psychology signals the beginning of a new growth stage in our academic offerings, and we anticipate the addition of even more degree programs in the near future,” he said.
