Emerson Scholars Recognized at Luncheon

Eight Lindenwood University scholars had the chance Wednesday to meet one of the corporate citizens who played a role in their scholarship.

The Emerson Appreciation Scholarship Luncheon took place on Wednesday, May 4, in the President’s Dining Room of the Spellmann Center. The event served as an opportunity for representatives from Emerson, a global manufacturing and technology company based in St. Louis, to meet the recipients of its scholarship for future educators.

Robert Cox, Emerson senior vice president in administration and Art McCoy, Ph.D., recently appointed Ferguson-Florissant School District superintendent, attended, along with Cynthia Bice, dean of the School of Education.

The eight Emerson scholars were: Kara O’Connor, Taylor Lewis, and Stephanie Litteken of St. Charles, Meghan Lightle and Stephanie Latson of Florissant, Shanda Collins of O’Fallon, Melodie Carr of Hazelwood, and Corey Butler of St. Louis.

This is the second year Lindenwood has partnered with Emerson to offer the awards. Recipients have committed to teaching in schools located in the North St. Louis region upon their graduation from Lindenwood. Each student has agreed to teach in the region for the same number of years he or she received the $6,840 annual scholarship.
