LU Hosting National Adult Education Research Conference

September 15, 2011

Lindenwood University is hosting the 30th Annual Midwest Research-to-Practice Conference in Adult, Continuing, Community and Extension Education. The conference, which will be from Sept. 21 to 23 at Ameristar Casino in St. Charles, Mo., provides a forum each year for practitioners and researchers to discuss practices, concepts, evaluation, and research studies to improve practices in the education of adults. This year over 40 papers were accepted for presentation from across the nation and even the world.

The conference is a very rare opportunity for local educators to access a wide array of information on the subject of adult education in one location over a few days. There are still spots available for attendees; registration costs $175 for professionals and $85 for students. The fee includes breakfast and lunch Thursday and Friday and a reception with hors d’oeuvres on Wednesday. Registration is available online at www.lindenwood.edu/mwr2p. Additional inquiries can be directed to Lindenwood’s Dr. Beth Kania-Gosche at 636-949-4576 or bkania-gosche@lindenwood.edu.

Lindenwood University professor Dr. John Henschke will present the keynote, “Nation Building through Andragogy and Lifelong Learning,” on Thursday morning. Conference topics will cover all aspects of adult education from skills training to doctoral level higher education. One significant focus, Kania-Gosche said, is the use of technology in education.

“Anyone who teaches adults will find something of interest there,” Kania-Gosche said.

A pre-conference will be held specifically for graduate students from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sept. 21; the cost to attend the preconference only is $30.

Kania-Gosche said the conference is organized annually by a group of educators from a variety of institutions who have in common a commitment to adult education. It has been hosted by Michigan State University, Ball State University, Ohio State University, and UM—St. Louis, among others. This is the first time it has been hosted by Lindenwood University.
