Higher Learning Commission Approves Belleville As Separate Campus

November 8, 2011

President James D. Evans on Friday announced at the regular meeting of the Lindenwood University Board of Directors that the Higher Learning Commission has approved Lindenwood’s Belleville location for separate campus status.

Evans said Lindenwood had been working for this designation for some time, striving to “build a complete campus that offers everything a student expects from a college in Belleville.”

Lindenwood-Belleville keeps the same name and retains the same board of directors and president. However, Lindenwood-Belleville is now considered a “sister school” to the St. Charles campus, functioning under the same umbrella.

“They’re part of a system, similar to what the University of Illinois has, although on a smaller scale,” Evans said. “This is definitely one of the biggest developments in Lindenwood history.”

Designation as a separate campus is a necessity, Evans said, for Lindenwood-Belleville to become a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). Lindenwood-Belleville Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer Jerry Bladdick and Belleville Athletics Director Scott Spinner submitted the NAIA membership application in September.

“It will help us tremendously in our ability to recruit students, especially student-athletes,” said Evans. Lindenwood University purchased the Belleville campus in 2004 and immediately began teaching adult evening classes. The university launched its day college in 2009.
