A day in the life of comic strip character Charlie Brown and his fellow "Peanuts" gang has become one of the most beloved musical comedies of all-time. The 1999 revised version of "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown" will be presented by Brass Rail Players at Lindenwood University's Belleville campus for five performances March 1-4, 2012.
Open auditions will take place Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 12 and 13, at 7 p.m., with call-backs on Dec. 14, at 6:30 p.m. at the Belleville Auditorium, Premier Center for the Arts, 2600 W. Main St., Belleville.
Based on Charles Schulz's timeless cartoon characters, Clark Gesner's lighthearted musical has new dialogue by Michael Mayer and additional songs by Andrew Lippa, all with the warmth and sincerity of the original 1967 show. From a bright morning to a hopeful starlit evening, vignettes on such childhood touchstones as Valentine's Day and kite-flying are featured.
Principal roles available include Charlie Brown, Linus, Lucy, Sally, Schroeder and Snoopy. Additionally, a chorus of six people is needed (Peppermint Patty, Marcie, Freida, Shermy, PigPen and Clark), and will double as stagehands. Performers must be age 18 and above. A cameo dancing non-speaking role, Woodstock, can be played by a youngster, age 12 and under.
Songs include "Suppertime," "Happiness," "The Doctor is In," "My New Philosophy," "Beethoven Day," "The Book Report," "TEAM - Baseball Game," and "My Blanket and Me."
Those auditioning are asked to sing 32 measures of a song not from the show, participate in character-driven activities, and read scenes from the script with groups onstage.
The production team includes director Matt Dossett, assistant director Stacey Tunnicliff, music director Marcia Braswell and choreographer Donna Goetz.
