Robert J. Trulaske, Jr. Family Foundation Donates to Boone Home

May 9, 2012

Lindenwood University has received a grant from the Robert J. Trulaske, Jr. Family Foundation to equip buildings at the school’s Historic Daniel Boone Home and Boonesfield Village center in Defiance, Mo., with updated fire suppression systems.

Owned and operated by Lindenwood, Boonesfield Village is comprised of more than a dozen nineteenth century buildings. Each building, except the Daniel Boone Home itself, was moved to the site from within 50 miles of the local area, offering visitors a snapshot of life on the Missouri frontier and providing students with a fully-integrated learning center.

The Trulaske Foundation gift will ensure the protection of key structures and their furnishings in the event of a fire, including the Daniel Boone Home, the Old Peace Chapel, and the carpenter’s shop. Remaining funds at the end of the three-month project will be used to update the systems in additional buildings.

“This project is extremely important to the long-term survival of this center,” said David Knotts, Ph.D., Dean of the Lindenwood School of American Studies. “We are grateful for the foundation’s generosity toward the maintenance of these structures, which make this site the wonderful attraction and educational facility it is.”

This is the second grant Lindenwood University has received from the Robert J. Trulaske, Jr. Family Foundation. The university was awarded a grant in 2011 that was used to refurbish two historic structures on the Daniel Boone Home property.
