Successful 5K Provides Relief for Injured Alumnus
May 29, 2012
Lindenwood University’s Recreation Administration Department recently hosted a 5K/1-Mile Fun Run fundraiser to benefit Chris Lister, an alumnus of the school who was injured in January when he was hit by a moving vehicle while participating in a 10K race.
Students in the Recreation Leaderhip program organized and orchestrated the Kilometers for Chris fundraiser to promote safety and provide financial relief for the Lister family. The event, held on the Lindenwood campus, had over 200 participants and raised over $5,000 for the Chris Lister Recovery Fund.
“We were overwhelmed and humbled that Lindenwood University would reach out to Chris in this way and are deeply grateful for all of the efforts in both the planning and hosting of the event,” said Joan Lister, Chris Lister’s mother.
Mike Aitken was the first runner to cross the finish line with a time of 16 minutes and 14 seconds. He was followed by Martin Doren (17:52) and Shane Watts (20:46). Liane Levy was the first female to cross the finish line with a time of 21 minutes and 49 seconds. She was followed by Mary Brosamer (21:59) and Caitlin Howe (22:17).
Sponsors for the event included members of Solutia Inc., Jones Grading and Excavating Inc., Dan’s Foreign Auto Repair LCC, Crowley Exteriors, Precision Engine Rebuilders, and Deaver’s Restaurant and Sports Grill. Donations were also given by Dierbergs and Show-Me’s. Volunteers included family and friends of the Lister family, Lindenwood students, members of Lindenwood Greek system, and the Lindenwood Athletic Trainers student organization.
