Lindenwood University will hold its first ever December commencement ceremony for graduate and undergraduate students at 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 13, at the Robert F. Hyland Arena on campus, located at 209 S. Kingshighway, St. Charles, MO 63301.
The ceremony was added due to the continuing increases in enrollment and the number of degrees conferred, which for this ceremony amounts to 1,259 who graduated or will graduate between August and December 2013. Approximately 650 to 700 students are expected to take part in the ceremony.
Missouri Senator Tom Dempsey will be the keynote speaker for the event. Dempsey was elected to the Senate after winning a special election in 2007 and was re-elected in 2008 and 2012. He currently serves as Senate leader and is the only Missouri lawmaker to have served as both house majority floor leader and senate majority floor leader.
Dempsey is also the vice president of First National Bank of St. Louis and a member of the Greater St. Charles County Chamber of Commerce, St. Charles Rotary Club, and St. Cletus Catholic Church.
Student speakers for the ceremony will be Michael DeVault from the Lindenwood Online Program and Kayla Piers for the daytime programs.
In May, more than 1,500 students participated in Lindenwood’s graduate and undergraduate commencement exercises, which have been held since 2007 at the St. Charles Family Arena and will continue to be. This was also the first year that Lindenwood’s Belleville campus held its own commencement exercises, which were conducted on the Lindenwood Belleville campus.
