The Lindenwood University- Belleville men of Kappa Sigma have been working hard to clean up Bicentennial Park, located on South 20th Street and Belleville Crossing Drive.
The City of Belleville purchased the former “Angler’s” property in November 2009 to develop it into Bicentennial Park, named in honor of Belleville’s upcoming 200th Birthday celebration in 2014. The 43 acres of property are unique and include a number of small ponds. Currently, the park is closed and under construction. City of Belleville officials hope that much of the area will be developed by the end of the year.
The Kappa Sigma Fraternity has partnered with the city and plans to complete a large amount of its community service hours at the park assisting in the development, whether it’s trash clean-up or brush clearing. In return, LU-Belleville’s Kappa Sigma members will have input on the layout and design aspects of the finished park.
“The park cleanup was such a great opportunity to build on fellowship and brotherhood while helping out the local community at the same time,” said LU-Belleville student and Kappa Sigma member Luke Outman. “With the growing number of college students in the local area, it will be great to have a place like this to escape to when we need a break from school, and it helps to get the Kappa Sigma name out into the community.”
