Theatre to Present 'The Importance of Being Earnest'

April 3, 2013

The Lindenwood University Theatre Department will present Oscar Wilde’s timeless comedy, The Importance of Being Earnest, at 7:30 p.m. on April 18 and 19 and at 2 p.m. on April 20 in the university’s Bezemes Family Theater.

Tickets range from $10 to $18 and are available at the Lindenwood University Box Office, 636-949-4433, or online at The Bezemes Family Theater and the box office are both located in the J. Scheidegger Center for the Arts on the Lindenwood campus at 2300 West Clay St. in St. Charles, one block west of First Capitol Drive.

Considered one of the funniest plays in the English language by one of history’s most brilliant playwrights, The Importance of Being Earnest is a comic tale of love and mistaken identity. Jack and Algernon, two dashing men-about-town who lead double lives with the help of “Mr. Bunbury,” Algernon’s imaginary friend, and “Earnest,” Jack’s imaginary brother. Their deceptions eventually cross paths when both men pretend their names are Earnest to impress Gwendolyn and Cecily, as well as Gwendolyn’s formidable mother, Lady Bracknell. The plot is fraught with twists and turns, as well as Wilde’s inimitable wit.

The cast includes Cole Figus as Jack, Shane Bosillo as Algernon, Milly Naeger as Gwendolyn, Cassie Ballard as Cecily, and Nicole Dele as Lady Bracknell, as well as Julie Range Colvin, John Fisher, J. Vincent Napoli IV, Brian Minatchy, Billy Walkenhorst, Marissa Bioni, and Kimberly Byrnes. The play is directed by Donna Northcott.
