Black Student Union to host MLK Day Observance Jan. 20

Lindenwood University’s Black Student Union will host a celebration of the life of Martin Luther King, Jr., on Monday, Jan. 20, on the school’s main campus in St. Charles, Mo. The ceremony will also revisit the messages of former South African President Nelson Mandela.

Vocalist Joaquin Musick performed during the 2013 Martin Luther King, Jr., celebration.

A commemorative walk, inspired by the peaceful marches and demonstrations led by King, will take place at 1:20 p.m. The procession will lead from the Spellmann Campus Center to Roemer Hall, where a program will begin at 1:30 p.m. inside Jelkyl Theater.

A keynote presentation will be delivered by John A. Wright, PhD, local lecturer and historian. In addition, the program will include artistic performances, dramatic readings from King’s work, and musical selections by Lindenwood’s premier vocal group, Voices Only.

The event is free and open to the public. No registration is required.
