LU to Co-Host Community Need and Poverty Panel Discussion

Lindenwood University and the Community Council of St. Charles County will host a panel discussion addressing the topics of community need and poverty titled “Helping that Affirms Human Dignity,” from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, April 10. The event will take place in the Barnes-Jewish Hospital Event Room of Spencer Road Library, located at 427 Spencer Road, St. Peters, Mo., 63376.

Robert D. Lupton, author of the book Toxic Charity: How Churches and Charities Hurt Those They Help (And How to Revise It) and founder and president of Focused Community Strategies Urban Ministries, will discuss his work. Breakout sessions will follow, and the final portion of the event will include a panel discussion by community members who will provide insight into the book and its practical application to their professional services.

The panel will include Greg Showe of VFW Post 5077; Nancy Cope, executive director of Habitat for Humanity of St. Charles County; Laura Heebner, president and CEO of Crider Health Center; Jana Nulik, director of training and impact at Connections to Success; Jennifer Long, director of outreach at Morningstar Church; and Ryan Carney, director of Vincentian Programs of Society at Saint Vincent de Paul.

The cost of the event is $40 for general admission and $35 for Community Council members. Lunch will be provided and is included in the cost of the ticket.
