R2P - Keynote Speaker

The keynote for the 2013 Research-to-Practice Conference will be Dr. Jost Reichmann.  The keynote address will be held in Dunseth Auditorium in Harmon Hall on Friday September 20, 2013.

Dr. Jost Reischmann is Professor (em) of Andragogy at Bamberg University in Germany. He is Vice President of the International Society for Comparative Adult Education (ISCAE). In 1999 he was nominated and inducted in the International Adult and Continuing Education Hall of Fame. In 1998 he received the President's Award for Innovative Leadership and in 2006 the Outstanding Service Award from the American Association for Adult and Continuing Education. He has been an invited speaker and keynote presenter at International Conferences in many countries.

His academic work specializes on theory of adult education, didactics, evaluation, and international comparative adult education. He has published over 200 academic publications in German and English.  He is also an author and editor of eight monographs (i.e. “Adult Education in West-Germany in Case Studies” “Open Learning”, “Generations”, “Evaluation in Continuing Education”, “Erwachsenenbildung im Kontext”, “Comparative Adult Education”).

For many years he cooperated as a consultant and trainer with adult education and training institutions in general adult education and business and industry, especially in train-the-trainer programs.

"Teaching and Leading as an Art and a Science"
The School of Education agrees that the general outcome of the teacher education program must be teaching professionals that believe and implement teaching as a blend of “Art” and “Science” as represented by the Beauty and Mechanism of the Spellmann Clock Tower… Teaching as an art because teaching is a craft that must be learned and applied in an authentic environment. Teaching as a science because it must be influenced by research and best practice for optimal student learning to be achieved.
