Mailboxes and mail service are provided to resident students of Lindenwood University. The student mailroom is student operated and staffed and provides a minimal amount of service. Students who require a more complete offering are encouraged to contact the St. Charles Post Office or one of the local mail handlers for a mailbox which can be rented for a minimal charge; Lindenwood has no affiliation with any mail carrier/post office. The university is not responsible for lost mail packages.
Location: Lindenwood University operates two mailrooms. One is located on the 3rd floor of the Spellmann Center and is for university faculty, the other, the student mailroom, is located on the Evans Commons Building. Both are operated by university students.
Delivery: Mail is delivered to the Evans Commons shipping dock on a daily basis. After faculty mail is separated out, student mail is delivered to the main floor of the Evans Commons. FEDEX, UPS, USPS, and other delivery services deliver to this shipping dock; mail dropped off at Evans Commons after the mail is dispersed will not be available until the following day. We do not provide same-day or next-day delivery. Mail is brought to the student mailroom once a day. UPS, FEDEX, and USPS do not deliver to the dormitories or houses, only to the university mailroom. Standard sized mail is delivered to the mailboxes; oversized mail is kept separate in the mailroom, and is picked up separately from standard-size ail.
Services: The University only provides a mailbox to students who request one. Other mail services are located at the St Charles Post Office, located on 5th Street (approximately 1 mile from the university); there is also a UPS facility located on 5th Street.
Hours of Operation: Mail is delivered to individual mail boxes each week day; student mailboxes are available to be checked each day the Evans Commons Building is open. Mail that is delivered on Saturdays will not be available until the following Monday. Oversize/accountable mail may be picked up anytime between 8:30 am and 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday when mailroom workers are present. Identification must be shown to obtain mail.
Oversize Mail: Students will be notified of any oversize mail (mail that won’t fit into the student mailbox) by email sent out by the mailroom. Students are responsible for checking in at the student mailroom periodically, especially if they are expecting a package. Packages that are not claimed by the addressee after two weeks will be returned to the sender.
Letter/Normal size mail: This mail will be placed into the student’s mailbox. Students are expected to check and empty their mailbox on a regular basis; mail that accumulates over a period of time, to the point the box cannot hold it, will be returned to sender as undeliverable.
Magazines/periodicals: Students who receive this class of mail should check their mailbox on a daily basis. The mailboxes are small and can only hold a small amount of mail; overflow mail is stored with oversize mail, and returned to sender after two weeks as undeliverable mail.
Mailboxes: Students living on campus are issued a mailbox only if they request one. Mailboxes are a privilege. Do not throw away mail that is not addressed to you! Instead, return it to the mailroom to verify the correct delivery. If you have a campus mailbox you will receive campus mail (grades, news from the Business Office, Registrars Office, Housing Office, Work and Learn Office, and any office that needs to contact you).
Students are expected to know their mailbox combination and be able to operate the mailbox; we will provide assistance as needed, but are not available to check and open each student’s mailbox. If you have an inoperative mailbox, inform the mailroom workers to have it repaired so you may open it.
After the mailroom personnel receive the form, they will email (to the email you give) your Mailbox and the Combination to open your Mailbox for the School Year 2011-2012.
End of Year: At the end of the school year any mail remaining will be returned to sender; we do not hold mail over the summer. It is the student’s responsibility to ensure their mail gets forwarded to the correct address (this can be done by giving the Mailroom a change of address). Any mail received over the summer will also be returned to sender or forwarded to the addressee’s forwarding address. Students remaining on-campus over the summer must notify the mailroom to avoid loss of mail privileges.
Flowers: The University receives numerous amounts of flowers; not all are delivered to the mailroom. If flowers are sent, and are not at the mailroom, please try to determine where they were delivered. The mail room will attempt to contact persons receiving flowers telephonically when they are received at the mailroom; we do not deliver flowers, they are the students’ responsibility to pick- up.
Student responsibilities: Check your mailbox on a regular basis, ensure your correspondents have, and use, your correct mailing address (to include your name); ensure the mailroom has your correct name (and any names you may receive mail under). We cannot deliver mail to a student that is not addressed to them; mail can only be delivered to the individual on the address line (other names: parents/relatives names, children’s names may not be delivered to you without written authorization). Mail is only given when individuals provide identification showing they are the proper recipient. The university is not responsible for lost mail packages.
